KENYA: Finally, a draft National Slum Upgrading and Prevention Policy is ready
The Government, working with the Multi-stakeholders Support Group (MSSG) launched the formulation of the National Slum Upgrading and Prevention Policy (NSUPP) in February 2012. The process driven by a broad based steering committee drawn from Government, Private Sector, Academia, Civil Society and Communities has generated the technical conceptual framework, preliminary thematic content ad the fundraising strategy.
Following the bench marking exercise carried out in No. selected countries in July this year, a draft working policy document is now ready. The overall objective of the policy is to promote secure and dignified lives and livelihoods of the poor living and working in slums and informal settlements in line with the constitution.
NSUPP requires full political, policy and technical support at all levels for holistic participation and ownership. Therefore, a National Consultative Workshop is planned to take place on 5th December 2013 at the Utalii Hotel commencing 8:00 am to seek inputs and receive feedback.
